Broadband Subscription and Penetration Maintain Steady Increase Despite Daunting Industry Challenges

Broadband subscription and penetration have maintained its rise which started in March 2022 after recording a fall in the previous months, according to statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in June 22, 2022.

Statistics sighted by TechTVNetwork.ng showed that in the month of March 2022, broadband subscription increased from 81,676,539 to 80,678,301 in April while under the same period, the broadband penetration went up from 42.24% in March to 42.79% April which but a short margin.

Despite the present industry challenges, the NCC statistics revealed that broadband subscription increased further from 80,678,301 in April to 83,365,233 in May even as broadband penetration followed the same progress rising from 42.79% in April to 43.67% by the end of May.

The active subscribers for data (internet) services on each of the licensed service providers utilizing the different technologies which are the GSM and CDMA witnessed the same progress with a total active internet subscription of 150,363,423 in May as against 148,101,78 in April.

On technology basis, the GSM technology still leads the subscription pattern with an active subscription figure of 149,781,122 followed by the VoIP with 357,147 and the Internet service providers with 210,597 as recorded in the month of May.

According to the NCC, the numbers of mobile telephone subscribers is still on the increase just as the teledensity sustains its upward movement.

The statistics indicated that subscriber figures went up from 201,670,650 in April to 204,578,953 in May while the teledensity followed the same increase move from 105.65% in April to 107.17% in May.
