The Akwa Ibom State Government has advanced plans to boost the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) tools for innovation with the intention to commence the generation of own electricity.
Governor Udom Emmanuel disclosed this during a media parley with the State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) including visiting practitioners at Banquet Hall, Uyo, state capital.
According to him, “I have applied for the licence to distribute power. So, whatsoever we generate, we will distribute. God willing, the licence will be approved and after then, we will float Ibom Power Utility Company.”
The parley broadcasted live by the Akwa-Ibom Broadcasting Corporation and Radio 90.5 FM, saw the governor underscoring the need to engage the youth adequately to curb restiveness both in the state and region as a whole.
Earlier, some group of ICT journalists and civil society organisation including the Civil Liberty, and members of Akwa Ibom indigenes in diaspora were conducted on a tour of the capital projects completed under this administration as it marks the 35 years.
Some of the milestones completed by Gov. Udom Emmanuel includes the 21-storey Dakkada Tower, reconstructed Eket Township Stadium, Flour mill, Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing company and ongoing Terminal building among others.
