In many African countries, the prices of fuel are influenced by a variety of factors, including those outside the continent. Most African countries import fuel due to a shortage of fuel production or refining capacity within the continent.

High petrol prices have been a recurring problem in many African countries, having a major effect on their industries, economy, and citizens’ everyday lives.
Due to a lack of processing capability, a large portion of Africa’s fuel supply is external, despite the vast reserves of oil in some countries.
Fortunately this problem is being slowly tackled, as demonstrated by the construction of the largest single train oil refinery in Nigeria.
However, as presently constructed, a large number of countries on the continent are still heavily reliant on imported refined petroleum products, which raises fuel prices.
Fuel price increases result in higher operating costs for transportation-dependent industries including manufacturing, logistics, and agriculture.
By restricting investment, consumer spending, and productivity, rising fuel costs can impede economic growth.
The global average fuel price is currently 1.24 U.S. dollars per liter, compared to 1.27 U.S. dollars per liter last month.
With that said, here are the ten African countries with the highest fuel prices in November 2024, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, which last updated its index on the 11th of November 2024.
In line with the reduction of the global average fuel price, the cost of fuel in the Central Africa Republic, Senegal, Seychelles, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, and Sierra Leone fell in November compared to the month prior. While fuel prices in Zimbabwe saw a slight increase.
The price of fuel in Malawi remained the same as the previous month. Guinea and Kenya are new additions to the top ten list this month.
