The leadership of the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) on Tuesday paid a working visit to the management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), reaffirming collaboration between industry operators and the sector regulator.

The courtesy visit, described by sources as strategic and forward-looking, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement between telecom operators and policymakers amid evolving industry challenges.

Although official details of the discussions were limited, a source familiar with the meeting told Business Hilights that key sector concerns were reviewed — particularly issues surrounding Quality of Service (QoS) and connectivity gaps in underserved communities.

Focus on Service Quality and Inclusion

Quality of Service remains a recurring concern in Nigeria’s telecom sector, especially as subscriber numbers grow and data consumption surges. Network congestion, service disruptions, and infrastructure deficits have placed increased pressure on operators to maintain performance standards.

According to the insider, both parties explored practical solutions aimed at improving service delivery while addressing operational bottlenecks affecting network expansion into rural and hard-to-reach areas.

The meeting also reportedly examined strategies to accelerate infrastructure rollout in underserved regions, aligning with national broadband expansion targets and broader digital inclusion goals.

Strengthening Industry–Regulator Synergy

Industry observers say the engagement signals renewed synergy between ATCON — representing telecom operators and service providers — and the NCC, which oversees regulation, licensing, and compliance within the communications sector.

Such collaboration is seen as critical at a time when the sector faces multiple pressures, including rising operational costs, infrastructure vandalism, right-of-way challenges, and increasing demand for high-speed data services.

While neither organisation issued a detailed communiqué, stakeholders expect continued dialogue in the weeks ahead as both bodies work toward sustaining sector stability and improving consumer experience.
