Nigeria’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) market continues to evolve rapidly as operators compete for a share of the country’s growing broadband market amid increasing demand for high-speed internet connectivity.
While mobile network operators (MNOs) such as MTN, Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile continue to dominate internet access through mobile broadband services, licensed ISPs are carving out niches by providing fixed wireless, fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), enterprise connectivity, and satellite broadband solutions.
According to the latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), 126 out of the country’s 230 licensed ISPs reported active subscribers as of the fourth quarter of 2025.
Collectively, these operators accounted for 352,006 active internet subscribers, compared to the 147.5 million internet subscriptions recorded by the four mobile network operators during the same period.
The figures reveal a highly concentrated market, with the top two providers—Spectranet and Starlink—accounting for more than half of all ISP subscribers in Nigeria.
Notably, satellite broadband provider Starlink has emerged as one of the industry’s biggest disruptors, rapidly climbing to second position within a few years of entering the Nigerian market.

The company’s recent merger announcement with Legend Internet is expected to further strengthen its market position and expansion plans.
Market Outlook
The latest NCC data underscores the growing demand for high-speed broadband services in Nigeria, particularly fibre and satellite internet solutions.
While mobile operators still dominate internet access nationwide, the ISP segment is becoming increasingly competitive as consumers and businesses seek faster, more reliable connectivity for remote work, digital services, cloud applications, streaming, and enterprise operations.
Industry analysts believe the next phase of competition will be driven by fibre expansion, satellite broadband adoption, infrastructure investment, service quality, and pricing innovation as operators race to capture Nigeria’s growing digital economy opportunity.
