Dr. Vincent Olatunji is the pioneer national commissioner and chief executive officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission established by the federal government of Nigeria in 2022. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 was signed into Law by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on June 12, 2023, and effectively positioned Nigeria to take its pride of place in the comity of nations in the very important aspect of data protection and data privacy
Dr. Olatunji is a bridge builder, policy innovator and hands-on able administrator.
He is also an acknowledged public sector analyst, Corporate Strategist and Researcher per excellence. He has proven, over the last three decades in the Nigerian public service his mantle as an apt organizer of team, Policy and Project Planning.
Dr. Olatunji is a seasoned professional with practical experience and thorough understanding of government operations in Nigeria. He joined the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in 2002 and has worked in various departments before rising to the position of director in 2014 and Acting Director General in 2016.
Prior to his appointment in February 2022 as pioneer National Commissioner and chief executive officer of the Nigeria Data protection Commission, he worked as the Director of eGovernment Development and Regulations at NITDA where he led a formidable team to deliver various initiatives on Nigeria’s digital transformation including formulating strategic goals and plans for achieving NITDA’s mandate and supervision of the development of ICT policy for states.
As Nigeria’s Data Protection Ombudsman, Dr. Olatunji’s relentless efforts and expertise have propelled him to the forefront in shaping policies and frameworks that align with international standards, bolstering Nigeria’s and Africa’s position in the global data protection landscape.
He is a Certified Public Private Partnership Specialist (IP3 Specialist) and a PECB Certified Data Protection Officer.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji holds a doctorate degree in Geography and Planning from the University of Lagos.
