Meta has announced that Threads, its text-based social media platform, has surpassed 500 million monthly active users, marking a major milestone nearly three years after its launch as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter).
The achievement underscores Threads’ rapid growth and increasing global adoption, as Meta continues to expand the platform’s features and community-driven experiences.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Meta attributed the growth to the vibrant communities that have formed around shared interests and conversations on the platform.
“This growth is driven by community groups of people showing up around the conversations they care about, from books to basketball to parenting to music,” the company said.
“Those communities built Threads into what it is, and now, we’re adding new tools to help them become even more meaningful and dynamic.”
The latest milestone comes just months after Threads reported reaching 150 million monthly active users in October 2025, highlighting the platform’s accelerating momentum in the social media landscape.
Strong Growth Across Global Markets
Meta disclosed that more users are increasingly opening Threads directly, signaling deeper engagement and stronger user retention.
The company also reported significant growth in Asia, particularly in South Korea and Japan, where time spent on the platform has increased by 80% and 130%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
Since its debut, Threads has emerged as one of the fastest-growing social platforms in history, reaching 100 million sign-ups within just five days of launch and challenging established players in the microblogging and real-time conversation space.
Meta Introduces ‘Your Algo’ to Give Users More Feed Control
Alongside the user milestone, Meta unveiled new personalization and community-focused features designed to enhance the Threads experience.
Among the most notable additions is “Your Algo,” a new tool that allows users to privately customize the types of conversations and topics that appear in their feeds.
The feature builds on “Dear Algo,” introduced earlier this year, which enables users to tell Threads’ recommendation system what content they would like to see more—or less—of.
With Your Algo, users can choose to increase or reduce the visibility of specific topics and set the duration of those preferences for one, three, or seven days.
According to Meta, these preferences remain private and can be managed alongside Dear Algo through a unified control hub.
“Only you will be able to see your requests, and you can manage both Dear Algo and Your Algo in one unified hub,” the company stated.
More Features Coming to Threads
Meta described the rollout of Your Algo as the beginning of a broader effort to make Threads more responsive to user preferences and community feedback.
The feature is initially launching in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with additional regions expected to follow.
The company also confirmed that its recently announced Live Chats feature is scheduled to become available to all users by July, further expanding real-time engagement capabilities on the platform.
As competition intensifies among social media platforms, Meta’s latest updates signal its commitment to making Threads a more personalized, engaging, and community-driven digital space while strengthening its position in the global social networking market.
