Airtel Money is considering cutting the size of its planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) by as much as 60%, with the mobile-money business now targeting at least $800 million from its proposed London listing.

The revised target would represent a significant reduction from the previously reported $1.5 billion to $2 billion fundraising ambition.

According to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg and reported by Reuters, the IPO could launch as early as next week, although the final fundraising size and timing remain subject to change as the offering process progresses. Airtel Africa has not commented on the reported revision.

Airtel Africa had earlier selected the London Stock Exchange as its preferred venue for the Airtel Money listing, saying the market would provide access to a broad international investor base with experience in emerging-market assets, fintech and payments.

The company is targeting a second-half 2026 listing, subject to market and regulatory conditions.

A major Reset in Fundraising Expectations
If the $800 million target is adopted, it would be approximately 47% below the lower end of the previously reported $1.5 billion target and 60% below the upper end of the $2 billion range.

The proposed adjustment comes as global market conditions continue to influence the timing and structure of major listings. Airtel Africa had already disclosed earlier in 2026 that market conditions had affected the anticipated timing of the Airtel Money IPO.

Airtel Money Remains a Major Growth Engine

Despite the potential reduction in the IPO size, Airtel Money has continued to expand rapidly. The business had 54.1 million customers as of March 2026, representing 21.3% year-on-year growth. Airtel Africa also reported annualised transaction value of more than $215 billion in the fourth quarter of its 2025/26 financial year.

In the quarter ended June 2026, Airtel Africa said Airtel Money's annualised transaction value had risen to more than $245 billion, up 51.5%, highlighting continued expansion in digital financial services across its markets.

The business generated $1.08 billion in revenue during Airtel Africa's financial year ended March 2026, according to company figures cited by Nairametrics.

Why the IPO matters

A successful listing would give investors a direct opportunity to gain exposure to one of Africa's rapidly expanding mobile-money platforms, while potentially unlocking value for Airtel Africa.

For Airtel Africa, the transaction also represents part of a broader strategy to establish Airtel Money as a separately positioned financial-services business with its own growth and investment profile.

The reported $800 million target, however, should be viewed as provisional until Airtel Africa formally announces the IPO terms.
