Nigeria Police Launches NPF Vigilant App to Report, Track Financial Fraud Cases

The Nigeria Police Force has launched the NPF Vigilant App, a new digital platform designed to make it easier for Nigerians to report suspected financial fraud and track the progress of their complaints.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, unveiled the app on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, alongside the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network.

Developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial-services ecosystem, the Vigilant App provides a citizen-facing channel for reporting suspected fraudulent transactions.

Users can submit fraud reports, upload relevant evidence, track their case IDs and receive feedback as their complaints are processed. The platform is also intended to facilitate coordination between the police and relevant financial institutions in accordance with existing laws and procedures.

The app's official Google Play listing describes it as a platform for reporting, tracking and recovering unauthorised transactions on bank accounts. It instructs users to register, log in, report the fraudulent transaction and track the resulting case ID.

Technology Meets Policing

Speaking at the launch, IGP Disu described the initiative as part of the Force's digital-transformation efforts, stressing that technology should be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with attention to citizens' rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of ICT, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, urged Nigerians to download the application from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.

The launch also introduced the NPF–MTN CUG Network, designed to provide police personnel nationwide with secure and affordable communication services to improve emergency coordination and operational response.

For victims of financial fraud, one of the biggest challenges is often knowing where to report a case and how to follow up after making a complaint.

The NPF Vigilant App attempts to address that gap by creating a digital reporting and case-tracking channel, potentially making financial-fraud reporting more accessible, structured and transparent.

However, its effectiveness will ultimately depend on how quickly reported cases are acted upon, how well the platform integrates with banks and other financial institutions, and how effectively citizens' personal and financial information is protected.
