Remita Launches New App, Bringing Its Payment Infrastructure to Consumers
After more than two decades of powering payments for businesses, government and institutions, Remita is taking its financial infrastructure directly to consumers with a new all-in-one mobile app.
Remita is expanding beyond its traditional role as a payment infrastructure provider with the launch of a new mobile app designed to bring banking, payments and everyday financial management into a single consumer platform.
The app was unveiled on September 22 at Nigeria Fintech Week 2026 in Lagos, marking a significant expansion of Remita’s long-standing business and institutional payments operations into the consumer and retail financial services market.
For more than two decades, Remita has operated largely behind the scenes, providing payment infrastructure used by businesses, government institutions, financial institutions and individuals. The new app puts more of that infrastructure directly in the hands of consumers.
At the centre of the proposition is multi-bank management. Users can connect accounts from different Nigerian banks and view their balances and financial activities from a single interface, reducing the need to move between multiple banking applications.
The platform goes beyond payments. Users can make local transfers, pay bills, automate recurring payments, manage expenses, compare loan options and invest in stocks and shares. It also supports transfers across African markets through the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), extending the app’s proposition beyond Nigeria.
Other services available through the platform include airtime and data top-ups, flight bookings and access to other financial services, positioning the product as a broader financial-management platform rather than simply another payments app.
Speaking at the launch, Remita Managing Director and CEO, ’DeRemi Atanda, described the move as a major step into the consumer and retail space after about 20 years focused largely on everyday payments and enterprise services.
The launch also signals a broader shift in Nigeria’s fintech landscape, where established payment infrastructure providers are increasingly moving closer to the end consumer.
Rather than building another standalone payment channel, Remita is leveraging its existing infrastructure and relationships to create a single environment through which consumers can manage multiple aspects of their financial lives.
For Remita, the strategic question now moves beyond how effectively it can power transactions for institutions to how successfully that same infrastructure can translate into everyday consumer value.
With the new app, one of Nigeria’s established payment infrastructure players is moving from behind the scenes to directly into the consumer’s smartphone.
