U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new Super Intelligence Force (SIF), a federal task force designed to coordinate the United States’ approach to the rapidly advancing field of artificial intelligence.

Trump announced the initiative on October 4, saying the force would coordinate federal efforts to ensure that the United States continues to lead the world in what he now calls “Super Intelligence.” He described the technology as potentially more significant than the Industrial Revolution and the internet.

The force will be led by Jay Clayton, Director of National Intelligence, who will effectively serve as the administration’s lead official on the initiative. Other senior officials involved include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.

According to reports, the task force has been given 120 days to assess the risks and opportunities presented by advanced AI and recommend how the U.S. government should respond.

Its mandate includes developing strategies for dealing with AI-enabled threats while avoiding regulation that could unnecessarily restrict innovation and competition.

The announcement comes shortly after Trump signed an executive order directing the U.S. executive branch to use “Super Intelligence” or “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” or “AI” in official communications. The order also calls for the development of a federal definition of the new terminology.

The initiative also follows a White House meeting with leading technology companies, where major AI firms agreed to a voluntary framework for managing AI development, including internal safeguards and independent audits.

For Washington, the creation of the Super Intelligence Force signals a growing effort to place AI strategy closer to the centre of national security, economic competitiveness and technology policy.

The administration has repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership as competition in advanced AI intensifies, particularly with China.

The bigger question now is how the new force will balance AI innovation, national security, public safety and regulatory oversight and whether its 120-day review will lead to a lasting U.S. framework for governing increasingly powerful AI systems.

Why It Matters
The move underscores how AI is evolving from a technology-sector issue into a national strategic priority, with implications for government, defence, cybersecurity, infrastructure, business and the global digital economy.
