As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the digital environment, stakeholders in Nigeria are set to converge in Abuja for the COSPRA Summit 2026, a major conversation focused on protecting children from emerging online risks and building a safer, more trusted digital future.

The summit, themed “Protecting Every Child in the AI Era: Building a Safe and Trusted Digital Future,” is being organised by the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation (NKF), a Special Purpose Vehicle of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), managers of Nigeria’s .ng country-code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD).

Scheduled for September 30, 2026, at the Federal Ministry of Finance Auditorium, Abuja, the summit will bring together key stakeholders to examine the evolving challenges confronting children in an increasingly AI-driven digital ecosystem.

Speaking to newsmen, Executive Secretary of the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation, Erica Okibe, said the summit is coming at a critical moment when the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is creating both opportunities and new risks for children online. She said COSPRA is focused on strengthening collaboration among government, technology stakeholders, parents, educators, civil society and other relevant actors to ensure that children can participate in the digital environment safely and responsibly.

From online abuse and exploitation to harmful content, privacy concerns, cyber risks and the potential misuse of artificial intelligence, the digital environment presents new challenges that require stronger collaboration among government, technology stakeholders, civil society, parents, educators and other relevant actors.

What You Should Know

COSPRA Summit 2026 is designed to provide a platform for stakeholders to deepen discussions around child online safety, protection, prevention and reporting of abuse in Nigeria.

The summit will also explore how responsible AI development and deployment can contribute to a digital environment where children can learn, connect and innovate while being better protected from emerging threats.

Why It Matters

The rapid adoption of AI is creating new opportunities for education, creativity and digital participation, but it is also changing the nature and scale of risks children may encounter online.

For Nigeria, strengthening child online protection will require more than technology alone. It will depend on effective policies, public awareness, responsible digital practices, accessible reporting mechanisms and sustained collaboration among institutions and communities.

The COSPRA Summit seeks to contribute to that conversation by bringing relevant stakeholders together around a shared objective: safer digital spaces for every child.
