UAE Clears Starlink for 10 Years as SpaceX Satellite Internet Goes Live

Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, has officially gone live in the United Arab Emirates after securing a 10-year licence from the country’s telecommunications regulator.

The commercial launch was confirmed on September 3, 2026, moving Starlink from the regulatory and pre-order stage into live service in the UAE.

The launch follows the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority’s (TDRA) decision on August 28 to grant Starlink Satellite Communications LLC a 10-year General Space Services Licence.

The licence authorises Starlink to establish, operate and manage a public satellite communications network and provide broadband satellite internet services across the UAE.

Unlike conventional broadband infrastructure, Starlink uses a constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites to deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity, creating an additional connectivity layer alongside the UAE’s established fibre-optic and 5G networks.

According to the TDRA, the move is designed to diversify the country’s internet access options while strengthening the resilience, readiness and continuity of its national communications infrastructure.

Starlink’s authorised market extends beyond residential users. The service can support individuals, businesses and government entities, while satellite connectivity will also serve sectors including maritime transport, aviation, energy, logistics and emergency response.

The UAE launch also gives Starlink a foothold in one of the Middle East’s most digitally advanced economies, potentially expanding the role of satellite connectivity in enterprise, mobility and critical infrastructure.

However, availability may vary by location and network capacity. Reports indicate that some customers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have encountered capacity constraints and waiting-list options.
